In our own way, we’ll be doing each of these up at The Farm (our ‘hedgerow’ will be mostly natives to attract local birds and pollinators, and create habitat), but you can achieve a lot of these in our own backyard. A food forest, for instance, just means that you have all the different layers – ie trees, shrubs, herbs, groundcovers and vines – all growing in the same patch of earth, utilising different nutrients and all supporting each other to create a microclimate that encourages further growth; you don’t need acreage to achieve this, a few square metres will do.
